Sharon Osbourne has revealed that she didn’t tell the other members of Black Sabbath how sick Ozzy Osbourne was leading up to “Back to the Beginning,” their final show together.

This is despite the doctors’ warnings of the potentially lethal consequences of going on with the show.

“They advised us not to do the show,” Sharon recently told Rolling Stone. “They said it would kill him. We were all together and Ozzy said, ‘It’s not an option. It’s what I want.’ He said, ‘I know I’m dying. If I miss a few months of my life, I want to go this way. This is what I want.’ It was his wishes and we went through with it.”

As Variety reports, at a London screening of Ozzy & Black Sabbath: Back to the Beginning on Tuesday night, Osbourne elaborated more on the condition Ozzy was in prior to the performance and just how few people knew the severity of his sickness.

“The guys didn’t know how sick Ozzy was,” she said during a Q&A session. “I mean, even my kids — we never told my kids. So nobody knew how sick he was. He was just praying that his lungs would work and that he could sing.”

The performance, though, offered a much needed buoyancy to his spirit, Sharon described. “He was so happy,” she said. “Until the day he passed, he was still on that high. He was so excited, so thankful to everyone. It was just joyous for us to see him that way, because we hadn’t seen him that way in years. He was laughing, telling jokes again. It was brilliant.”

Ozzy performed solo and with Black Sabbath at the “Back to the Beginning” concert in Birmingham, England, on July 5th, 2025. He passed away 17 days later at the age of 76.

Ozzy & Black Sabbath: Back to the Beginning, the film capturing their final sets, as well as performances by Metallica, Guns N’ Roses, Tool, Pantera, Alice in Chains, and more, will hit theaters on October 28th, with tickets available here.
