It’s been nearly a decade since Primus released their last studio album, 2017’s The Desaturating Seven, although they did release new songs on the 2022’s Conspiranoid EP and 2024’s Sessanta E.P.P.P (a collab with Maynard James Keenan on the track “Pablo’s Hippos”, as well as the stand-alone single “Little Lord Fentanyl” featuring Puscifer in 2025.

The EP is rounded out by a cover of Dio’s “Holy Diver” featuring Puddles Pity Party, the aforementioned “Little Lord Fentanyl,” and a live version of “Duchess (And the Proverbial Mind Spread).”

“The Ol’ Grizz” sees the band return to the mutant dark funk-country-metal they pioneered on records like Sailing the Seas of Cheese and Pork Soda. It contains a classic busy Les Claypool rolling bass line and showcases the Neil Peart-inspired work of new drummer John Hoffman. Primus then break into a proggy and atmospheric instrumental bridge to bring elements of their more atmospheric and mature work.
