[This story contains MAJOR spoilers from Nobody Wants This season three.]
Like clockwork, fall means another new season of Nobody Wants This — and after three seasons, we finally have an answer to what happens with Noah and Joanne’s interfaith relationship.
The Netflix rom-com has returned with all 10 episodes of its third season currently streaming, picking up with the couple more serious than ever. They’ve moved in together, and Joanne is attending Jewish conversion classes as she and Noah look to build a future together.
Below, The Hollywood Reporter breaks down the season’s biggest moments, from surprise cameos and new relationships to romantic twists that threaten to complicate things. Read on to find out what happens in season three of Nobody Wants This.
Noah and Joanne Get Engaged
In episode four, Noah (Adam Brody) and Joanne (Kristen Bell) take the next step in their relationship by attending their first wedding together. Noah tells Joanne he has to officiate his friend Brian’s wedding, so she accompanies him as his plus one. However, they nearly miss their flight when Joanne offers her seat to a superfan, Nicole (played in a cameo by series creator Erin Foster). They meet at the airport because the woman reminds her of herself.
Ultimately, they make their flight and head to wine country, where Noah reveals that Brian isn’t real and the wedding was a ploy to get Joanne there so he could propose. With Taylor Swift’s “Lover” playing in the background, the two are officially engaged!
Foster told Netflix Tudum that she was inspired by her own 2019 engagement to her now-husband, Simon Tikhman. “I thought I was going to [another couple’s] vow renewal, and I wasn’t. I was going to my own proposal,” she said. “All roads lead back to me every time.”
Morgan and Sasha Hook Up
The moment some viewers have been waiting for all season finally happens in episode seven: Morgan (Justine Lupe) and Sasha (Timothy Simons) cross the line from friends to lovers. Their relationship reaches a turning point when, at Morgan’s request, Sasha joins her on a trip to New York City, where she appears on Watch What Happens Live With Andy Cohen for her new podcast segment, “Make Them.”
The pair go to dinner, which Sasha calls a date — and Morgan doesn’t correct him — before taking a walk, where Morgan opens up to him more than ever before about her former marriage. They nearly share their first kiss, but Morgan pulls back, insisting that once they cross that boundary, there’s no going back. After all, their siblings are now engaged.
But when they return to the hotel, a few more attempts to resist their chemistry prove futile and they finally give in. However, the morning after changes everything (more on that below).
Esther Has a New Man
Following her separation from Sasha, Esther (Jackie Tohn) begins exploring life outside her marriage. Although she initially tells him that dating isn’t her priority, that changes as the season progresses. When Morgan tries to help Sasha move on by creating an online dating profile for him, he discovers Esther is on the app, too, making it clear that she’s putting herself out there and that he should do the same.
Esther also pursues a career in real estate, earning her license and meeting Julian (Steven Weber), a wealthy, older client. The two hit it off and eventually decide to date exclusively.
Morgan, Esther and Sasha’s Love Triangle Is Back
After their romantic night in New York City, Morgan walks out on Sasha the next morning, leaving a note saying she caught an earlier flight. After some time to process her feelings, she realizes she made a mistake and tells Sasha she wants to give their relationship another chance. However, he rejects her, explaining that he isn’t emotionally ready to risk their friendship.
The rejection leaves Morgan unable to stand being in the same room as Sasha, making Noah and Joanne’s wedding planning even more complicated. But that’s not the only relationship drama brewing. In the finale, Esther visits Sasha at his home to drop something off for their daughter and the estranged couple ends up hooking up. The encounter threatens Esther’s relationship with Julian and adds another layer to the already messy Morgan-Sasha dynamic.
Hello, Bravo! Andy Cohen and Ciara Miller Cameos
The Bravo love is strong in season three. Early on, Noah mentions Summer House when he interrupts Joanne while she’s bed-rotting and tells her to stop bingeing the beloved reality series so they can talk.
A few episodes later, Morgan appears on Watch What Happens Live With Andy Cohen for her new podcast segment, with Cohen himself making a cameo in a taped segment of his talk show. Her fellow guest is none other than Ciara Miller, who has starred on Summer House since season five. Miller has also made headlines this year amid the drama surrounding her best friend and castmate Amanda Batula’s relationship with West Wilson, Miller’s ex and another Summer House star.
Christmas Episode Without Chrismukkah
With the penultimate episode of the season centered on Christmas, it seemed like the perfect opportunity to celebrate Chrismukkah — the hybrid Christmas-and-Hanukkah holiday popularized by Seth Cohen (also played by Brody) on Fox’s hit early-2000s series The O.C.
Instead, the episode focuses on Noah trying to make sure Joanne has the best Christmas possible. With her conversion to Judaism approaching, he wants to make the holiday special for her as she prepares for a new chapter in her life. The Christmas episode offers a sweet moment for the couple before the season’s emotional finale.
Joanne Finally Converts to Judaism
One of the biggest questions hanging over the series since season one is finally answered: Will Joanne convert to Judaism? Throughout the season, Joanne takes conversion classes taught by Rabbi Eden (Sarah Silverman), alongside Sebastien (Andrew Rannells). In the finale, she reaches the final step: the mikvah, a ritual immersion that marks her conversion.
The emotional moment takes place in the ocean near the Malibu Beach house where the two families have gathered. As Joanne enters the water and emerges following the ritual, Noah watches with tears in his eyes, moved by the milestone she has reached. After all the questions and uncertainty surrounding her conversion, the moment marks a major turning point for the couple. Rabbi Eden jokes that the next step is for Noah and Joanne to start having kids as they build their Jewish family.
Noah and Joanne Are Married
As if the engagement wasn’t enough of a surprise, Noah and Joanne take their relationship one step further in the season three finale: They get married! After Joanne completes her conversion, the couple reflects on the sacred moment they’ve just shared. But as drama between their families reaches a boiling point — particularly Morgan’s inability to be in the same room as Sasha and Noah’s mother trying to control their wedding plans — they realize they’ve lost sight of what matters most: each other.
Instead of continuing to plan a wedding amid the family tension, Noah asks Rabbi Eden to marry them right there on the beach. Joanne agrees to the spontaneous idea, and they find a stranger walking his dog who happens to be Jewish and can serve as their witness. With Rabbi Eden officiating, Noah and Joanne tie the knot in an intimate beach ceremony, becoming Mr. and Mrs. Roklov.
