Greta Van Fleet just released their fourth album, Palace for the People, and announced a massive 2027 world tour. Consequence recently caught up with all four members of the Michigan rock band to discuss the new album and more.

The extensive 2027 tour runs from early February through late July, and includes two North American legs. Tickets are on sale now via Ticketmaster, with the band taking measures to ensure that the prices will remain at face value.

During our conversation with Greta Van Fleet, the band members discussed the new album, along with a few of its songs, particularly “The Heart and the Beat,” “Play Your Games,” and “Saw You Stand.”

Guitarist Jake Kiszka told us, “This record for us, I think, is the greatest departure from what would’ve been, essentially the ethos of what we grew up with, the well that we have pulled from. ‘Cause we, in so many ways, are a product of our environment. We grew up in middle America, in a small town in Michigan, and we were listening to blues and folk and R&B and soul and bluegrass and just very fundamental American roots music. I think on this record, again, it’s sort of the mission statement or the modus operandi was gonna be to filter something different than what we had done before.”

The band also talked about the criticism they faced upon breaking into the scene, particularly the comparisons to a certain classic rock act that’s in the Top 10 of Consequence‘s 100 Best Bands of All Time.

Singer Josh Kiszka remarked, “We all had a sense of humor about it, I suppose. I think we were confident enough in what we were doing to understand that some of this drivel was sort of inaccurate. When a publication would say, ‘Well, these young, talentless dilettantes show up, and they think they know rock ‘n’ roll music… how dare they do this!’ … But the reality of it was it was out of pure respect, sincerity, and love and appreciation for the greatest fucking genre of all, because it’s so elastic and so pristine and beautiful.”

Ultimately, Greta Van Fleet called their fans the “driving force” of the band, with Josh telling us, “That’s kind of why this record is Palace for the People… The faces we see there who come to listen to our music, who tune into what we’re doing, that’s the entire foundation of this whole thing.”
