The FBI have offered a $15,000 (£11,195) reward for anyone who can provide information about the people involved in the death of a newborn baby, which was found in a toilet at Electric Forest festival.

The infant’s body was found in a portable camp ground toilets at the Electric Forest festival campgrounds in Rothbury, Michigan last month.

An employee of the restroom vending company made the upsetting discovery while conducting routine maintenance, Michigan State Police shared (per CBS News), before confirming that an investigation was underway.

Last month, police made it clear that they were “asking for the public’s assistance” to help find the people responsible, and urged anyone who was “in the area and observed anything unusual, or if you have information that you believe may be relevant” to come forward.

Few details have been confirmed, including the baby’s race, gender or exact cause of death, but Michigan State Police have revealed that findings in the preliminary autopsy “indicate the infant was viable and was born alive”.

In a statement shared on Monday July 13 (via Consequence), it was confirmed that the FBI were also involved in the case, and will be offering a $15,000 reward for “information identification, arrest, and conviction” of the individual or individuals involved.

Michigan State Police added that they would remain “committed to a thorough investigation of this incident” alongside the FBI and “confident that continued investigative efforts, combined with forensic science, will ultimately lead to the identification of the person responsible”.

In their statement, they also clarified that they were withholding information about the baby, evidence they have found, and the circumstances in which it died in an attempt to “protect the integrity of the investigation”.

Anyone with information is encouraged to get in touch with the Michigan State Police by submitting a tip here, or by calling 1-855-MICH-TIP (1-855-642-4847).

When the saddening discovery was found at the festival at the end of last month, festival organisers took to social media to address the “Forest Family” in the wake of the incident.

“It causes us so much pain to have to share this difficult news with you,” they shared. @michstatepolice continues to investigate this tragic event if you can assist in any way. HQ is heartbroken and knows that our Forest Family is as well.”
