EXCLUSIVE: Bob Yari’s Magenta Light Studios has acquired theatrical rights in multiple territories to the family-adventure film Flavia, starring Molly Belle Wright, Martin Freeman, Jonathan Pryce and Toby Jones.

Magenta will release the Brit pic in U.S. theaters on December 4, 2026, and has also acquired the film for Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Italy, Netherlands, Norway, Sweden, Switzerland, and China.

From director Bharat Nalluri (Miss Pettigrew Lives for a Day), the film is based on the Flavia de Luce series of mystery novels by Alan Bradley. The Sky Original was released in the UK in early April.

The synopsis reads: “Amateur detective. Master poisoner. Eleven years old. When Flavia finds a dead body at her family’s decaying British manor house and her father is accused of murder, she dives into her own wild and fearless investigation, unearthing long-held family secrets and pitting herself against the true murderer. A little genius goes a long way.”

The movie was produced by Robert Mickelson, Paula Mazur, Mitchell Kaplan, and Chris Curling, through The Mazur Kaplan Company, Mystic Point Productions, and Zephyr Films, respectively. It was developed and co-financed by Telefilm Canada and Sky. The screenplay was written by Susan Coyne (Daisy Jones and the Six).

Flavia is the kind of mystery adventure that’s meant to be experienced with an audience, full of suspense, humor, surprises, and heart. American moviegoers are going to discover an unforgettable young heroine in Flavia de Luce, brought brilliantly to life by Molly Belle Wright. I’m thrilled that audiences across the U.S. will get to enjoy this film together on the big screen later this year,” said Nalluri.

“From the moment we saw Flavia, we knew it was a film audiences would want to discover in theaters. It’s rare to find a family mystery with this level of intelligence, charm, and broad commercial appeal. Alan Bradley created a beloved character in Flavia de Luce, and Bharat Nalluri’s adaptation delivers a fresh cinematic experience that we’re proud to bring to U.S. audiences,” commented Bob Yari, CEO of Magenta Light Studios.
