Dave Grohl got the thrill of a lifetime when he performed “Highway to Hell” with AC/DC last month at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey. Now, the Foo Fighters frontman has revealed that he broke down in tears immediately following the experience.

Consequence was there for the magnificent October 2nd concert at which Foo Fighters supported AC/DC. As we reported, Grohl had given a heartfelt speech about his love for AC/DC during the Foos’ set, explaining that seeing the concert film Let There Be Rock at age 11 changed his life. Later on in the evening, AC/DC singer Brian Johnson invited Grohl out to perform “Highway to Hell” with the legendary rock band.

In a new interview with New Zealand radio station The Rock, Grohl reflected on the momentous occasion, recalling, “[AC/DC] had the band The Pretty Reckless on tour with them for years. And we’ve been friends with The Pretty Reckless for a long time. And [Pretty Reckless singer] Taylor Momsen couldn’t make one show, so she called, she’s, like, ‘Man, I can’t make this one show. Do you think you could fill in?’ And I looked at the calendar. I’m, like, ‘Oh my God, it’s a day off.’ And so when we got there, it was unbelievable playing for AC/DC. And then it happened again. Taylor couldn’t make it to another show, so we went to that one. And at that one, I got to get up on stage and jam with them.”

He continued, “It was so crazy because my wife was on the side of the stage. We played ‘Highway to Hell.’ I walked off stage and I broke down in tears, sobbing like a baby. I was sobbing, like wailing, sobbing, and I couldn’t believe it. I was, like, ‘That is one of the most full circle moments of my entire life and I will never forget it.’ And just so you know, that is the loudest stage I have ever stood on in my entire life. More than Motörhead, more than any other band. AC/DC is the loudest band in the world, I think.”

Foo Fighters kick off a tour of Australia and New Zealand this Thursday, November 5th, and will embark on a South American tour in February. They will also play the KROQ Almost Acoustic Christmas on December 12th in Los Angeles (pick up tickets here).
