Robert Plant served as the musical guest on Wednesday night’s episode of The Late Show, where he honored the departing Stephen Colbert with a special performance of Led Zeppelin’s “Ramble On.”

The Led Zeppelin II cut is famously packed with references to J.R.R. Tolkien’s The Lord of the Rings, making it a fitting tribute for Colbert, a well-known Tolkien superfan who is set to co-write a Lord of the Rings film in the near future. He and Plant also bonded over their love of the author during a previous episode of the Late Show.

Wednesday night’s episode of The Late Show also saw Plant and his band Saving Grace perform “Higher Rock” from the musician’s 2025 solo album Saving Grace.
