Boards of Canada have announced a new album, Inferno, out on May 29th via Warp Records.

The release serves as the Scottish duo’s fifth album and their first in 13 years; their last effort was 2013’s Tomorrow’s Harvest. The project includes 18 tracks and will be available on special edition limited red translucent 2xLP vinyl in a triple gatefold
sleeve with a 16-page booklet, standard black 2xLP vinyl, and CD and digital formats. Pre-orders are ongoing.

Boards of Canada — the project of brothers Mike Sandison and Marcus Eoin — had been dropping mysterious hints regarding new music in recent weeks, from sending cryptic VHS teasers to fans to putting up BoC-referencing posters in London, New York, California, and the Liquidroom venue in Shibuya, Japan. They then formally resurfaced on Thursday, April 16th to offer “Tape 05,” a moving, ambient piece that served as the brothers’ first new song in over a decade. The track will not appear on Inferno.

Prior to readying Inferno, Boards of Canada would re-emerge in the spotlight only on occasion, offering remixesarchival reissues, and an NTS DJ set for Warp Records’ 30th anniversary in 2019.
