Tomahawk are heading out on their first tour in 13 years this summer, and making the outing even more enticing is that they’re hitting the road with the Melvins.
The tour, humorously dubbed “A Huge Waste of Your Time and Money,” kicks off July 18th in Nashville, and runs through an August 15th show in Los Angeles, with stops in Dallas, Atlanta, Philadelphia, Brooklyn, Boston, Detroit, Denver, Seattle, and San Francisco, among other cities (pick up tickets here).

Ahead of the trek, Melvins frontman Buzz Osborne caught up with Tomahawk guitarist Duane Denison (also of The Jesus Lizard) over Zoom to chat about the tour, reminisce about previous times touring together, discuss their influence on other bands, and more for Consequence‘s “Two for the Road” series.
When discussing the band’s they’ve influenced, Denison noted, “When people say [we influenced them], I feel like I’m glad that I inspired them to go out and do something, but I don’t think they sound anything like anything I’ve done. I can’t hear it in the music… So on the one hand, I appreciate it, but I don’t always get it.”
Osborne chimed in, “I used to have a joke with [Mike] Patton [Tomahawk, Faith No More, Mr. Bungle], ’cause he’s called influential, as well. I would go, ‘I’ll take Nirvana and Soundgarden, and you can have Limp Bizkit and Korn!’ He’s like, ‘Fuck you!’”
Elsewhere in the conversation, Denison talked about the differences between being in a band with David Yow (The Jesus Lizard) and Patton (Tomahawk).
“David Yow sees himself as a punk rock vocalist,” said Denison. “He is not concerned with trying to be a great singer. He’s not concerned with displaying his professionalism and all that…. [There’s a] deliberate sort of unhinged sort of recklessness about those type of vocalists, and he certainly has done that over the years.”
He added, “Whereas with Patton, I mean, he is definitely a singer. He’s one of the best, one of the tops of our era.”
Meanwhile, Osborne discussed the possibility of a mini-Fantômas reunion on the summer tour, considering that three-fourths of the band will be on the bill, including himself, Patton, and Trevor Dunn (who is now a member of Tomahawk). “I mean, anything’s possible,” he said, “That hadn’t even crossed my mind… but I wouldn’t say no to it.”
