Steven Spielberg has suggested that Earth has “absolutely” been visited by aliens.

Spielberg has famously explored the topic of alien life throughout his career, notably in films such as Close Encounters Of The Third Kind, E.T. The Extra-Terrestrial, and War Of The Worlds.

The director’s latest film, Disclosure Day, also focuses on a conspiracy to hide knowledge of alien life, is set to launch in cinemas this week, and, ahead of its release, Spielberg was asked by CBS News whether he believes aliens have been to Earth, and the idea that they “might still be here”.

“Based on the circumstantial evidence of everything that I’ve gathered throughout my whole life, everybody I’ve listened to and every documentary I’ve ever watched and all the testimonies in Congress that I’ve heard, I absolutely think that they have been here, and they are here,” he responded.

“And who knows, maybe they’ve always been here.”

Disclosure Day features Josh O’Connor, Emily Blunt, Colman Domingo and Colin Firth, and focuses on a whistleblower who races against the clock to unveil a conspiracy by the government to keep knowledge of extra-terrestrials under wraps.

Early reactions to the new film came in late last month, one who had seen it calling it the director’s best film in two decades.

Gizmondo journalist Germain Lussier described it as: “A dense roller coaster ride blending chase film, love story, & mystery, all wrapped in sci-fi wonder. It’s Spielberg’s best film in 20 years, filled w/ all the magic that makes his films so special, plus an all-time character/performance by Emily Blunt.”

“Spielberg’s DISCLOSURE DAY is a hypnotic, captivating UFO thriller that completely disarms your soul,” added journalist Jairo Jiménez.

In other news, last week Spielberg surprised participants at a London pub quiz to ask questions about his own career. Taking place at The Devonshire in Soho, the director was joined by Disclosure Day star Colman Domingo.
