Slash Says New Guns N’ Roses Album Is “Coming,” Band Has “So Much Material”

Slash has revealed that Guns N’ Roses have “so much material” for their next album, adding that the long-awaited follow-up to Chinese Democracy is “coming.”

In a new interview in the December issue of Guitar World, Slash was asked about GN’R’s next album, as he often has been in recent years.

“There’s so much material at this point — it’s a matter of having the discipline to sit down and fucking get into it,” the guitarist said, (via a magazine clipping captured on X/Twitter). “But the thing with Guns is, in my experience, you can never plan ahead. You can never sit down and go, ‘We’re going to take this time, and we’re going to do this.’ Every time we’ve done that, it falls apart.”

He added, “It just spontaneously happens through some sort of inspiration that triggers it. And the next thing you know, it’s off and running. So it’s coming. I know it’s coming because everybody is thinking about it. It’ll just happen when it happens.”

Of all the GN’R members, Slash has been the most open about discussing the band’s upcoming plans and future releases. The guitarist rightly projected a 2021 release for the singles “Absurd” and “Hard Skool” — at the time, their first new music in 13 years — which were included on the Hard Skool EP a year later. In 2022, Slash also outlined the band’s plans to release new songs, possibly “an entire record’s worth of material,” until the full album was finished.

One thing keeping the band out of the studio is consistent touring, with the guitarist often hitting the road with his solo projects, inscluding Slash Featuring Myles Kennedy and The Conspirators, when Guns N’ Roses are idle. Currently, GN’R are in the midst of a Latin American tour that runs through mid-November. Get tickets here.
