Dead By Daylight, AKA the “most-played horror game in history”, is getting a movie adaptation.

Originally released in 2016, Dead By Daylight is a hugely popular online multiplayer survival horror game that’s featured collaborations with Stranger Things, Saw and Alien, as well as Resident Evil and Silent Hill. Even Iron Maiden and Slipknot have crossed over into the Dead By Daylight universe.

To celebrate ten years of Dead By Daylight, game developers Behaviour Interactive hosted a bumper showcase to give fans a taste of what the future looks like. A string of limited-time game modes are coming to the hit online title over the next twelve months, alongside new survivors and some familiar killers including Terrifier’s Art The Clown and Friday The 13th’s Jason.

Behaviour CEO Remi Racine also claimed that Dead By Daylight has become the “most-played horror game in history” with more than 70million players logging on over the past decade. “I’m astounded by how the game continues to reach new heights,” he added, with revenue increasing by more than 50 per cent over the last twelve months. “2025 was Dead By Daylight’s most successful year so far. We welcomed over six million new players and delivered record performance.”

Behaviour also confirmed the Dead By Daylight movie was still happening. The project was first announced back in 2023 with Saw creator James Wan set to produce. It’s now been confirmed that Thordur Palsson (The Damned, The Valhalla Murders) will direct the Dead By Daylight movie using a screenplay from Alexandre Aja and David Leslie Johnson-McGoldrick (The Conjuring, Aquaman).

“For me, the main thing is capturing the feeling of playing Dead By Daylight,” said Palsson. “The main thing is I want to capture the feeling of looking over your shoulder. I want to capture the dread, the tension, the fear of what’s waiting for you in The Fog. I love horror that stays with you after it’s over, and that’s the cinematic experience we want to bring to the big screen for you guys.”
