Alissa White-Gluz has been busy as ever since her surprise exit from Arch Enemy last fall. The singer released a solo song, formed a new band called Blue Medusa, and most recently joined power-metal stalwarts DragonForce as co-vocalist.

Heavy Consequence caught up with White-Gluz (prior to the DragonForce news), and spoke with her about leaving Arch Enemy, the formation of Blue Medusa, her vegan lifestyle, and more.

Regarding her departure from Arch Enemy after roughly a dozen years in the veteran metal band, White-Gluz told us, “It’s a weird state of mind to be in something for 13 years. I started when I was a teenager, so I’ve been doing this over 20 years… In 23 years, I’ve switched jobs twice. That’s it. So, it’s a long time to spend in one workplace… I have been working my ass off for a really long time.”

She continued, “At a certain point, the music industry starts to feel more industry and less music, and I don’t like that. That feels gross to me. That’s not why I do this. So, I wanted to be able to reconnect with music, and be an artist.”

As to why it was important for Blue Medusa to be an all-female band, the singer explained, “That’s something I’ve been dreaming about since I was little. I’ve always wanted to be on tour, onstage with all women.”
