MIKE, Earl Sweatshirt, and SURF GANG have announced a new double album called POMPEII // UTILITY, and released a music video for the double single “MINTY // EARTH.” They’ve also announced the “Home on the Range” tour.
Due out April 3rd via 10k/Tan Cressida/SURF GANG Records, POMPEII // UTILITY spans 33 tracks and pairs MIKE and Earl’s trance-inducing raps with production from the New York collective SURF GANG.

According to a press release, the project has been “many years in the making” and is a product of not just MIKE and Earl’s working relationship that stretches back almost a decade, but also SURF GANG’s history of working with both artists.

A glimpse of what fans can expect on POMPEII // UTILITY can be found in “Minty // Earth.” On the “Minty” half of the track, MIKE pedals an ominous verse in his distinctive lower register, making great use of a minimalistic beat to paint descriptive scenes. When the beat switches to “Earth” and adds some considerably smoother musical textures, Earl hops on with quietly delivered, densely-packed rhymes that connect in ways you’d never expect — per usual.
In the accompanying music video, MIKE, Earl, and SURF GANG head out to a remote location to deliver their rhymes while they enjoy each other’s company.
It’s only right that with this new project, MIKE, Earl, and SURF GANG head out on a massive trek in support. The “Home on the Range” tour kicks off on April 24th in Mexico City at Foro Indie Rocks. Over the next few months, it will visit US cities such as Los Angeles, New York, and Myrtle Beach before heading to the UK and Europe, where the artists will perform in cities including Glasgow, Dublin, and Paris.
Artist pre-sale tickets will be available on Wednesday, March 11th at 10:00 a.m. local time (using the password UTILITY). Spotify pre-sale tickets go on sale on Thursday, March 12th at 10:00 a.m. local time (using the password THEHARP). General on-sale tickets will then be available on Friday, March 13th at 10:00 a.m. local time via Ticketmaster.
