We’re cracking open another episode of Six-Pack Stories, the video interview series from Consequence and Lagunitas where artists sit together over a six-pack of fun and probing questions. This time, folk artists Hudson Freeman and Anna Tivel join us backstage at Luck Reunion to chat about finding their voices, guitar riffs, and the eternal Beatles vs Stones debate. Watch above or on YouTube.
Certain conversations can only blossom when two people actually like each other and share mutual respect — like when the eternal debate over The Beatles vs The Rolling Stones turns into a philosophy session about how music impacts you physically and mentally. That’s the energy singer-songwriters Hudson Freeman and Anna Tivel brought when they met backstage at Luck Reunion 2026 for the latest episode of Consequence and Lagunitas’ Six-Pack Stories.
Settling in over a couple of cold Hoppy Refreshers, the pair feel each other out the way folk musicians often do: with a curious and genuine warmth. They discuss their recording habits, Tivel saying that recording her album Animal Poem in a circle with friends “felt closer to free than I’ve ever felt in the studio,” and Freeman recalling how producer Phil Weinrobe preferred to not use studio headphones and “doesn’t even like using the word ‘bleed.’”
Like any memorable conversation, the topics flow into insightful and interesting asides. A question about dream collaborators (Sufjan Stevens, for Freeman) becomes a consideration of the Brooklyn music scene; asking about finding their respective singing voices turns into a thoughtful exchange on authenticity and connection. Tivel and Freeman find a cordial depth in just about every question they’re presented with.
So of course they’d get to the emotional core of the question that has divided music fans for decades: Beatles or Stones? Freeman argues that The Beatles “make me feel in love with the idea of music,” while the Rolling Stones “make me think about my life, actually.” Tivel puts it another way: “The Stones make me wanna wash my car aggressively and do something illegal, and The Beatles make me wanna drop acid and think about melody and strange subject matter.”
So what was their final answer? Watch Hudson Freeman and Anna Tivel on Six-Pack Stories above (or via YouTube) to find out. Stay tuned for future episodes — and cheers!
