Two years since the release of their sophomore album, SAMA-nominated acclaimed band WRESTLERISH, releases a brand new single entitled BATTLE GROUND to radio today. BATTLE GROUND is the first single from their brand new album set for release toward the end of September this year.

“The song is a continuation of some of the themes from the first album. It’s about being pushed to your limits by someone you love or consider a big part of your life. The theme is basically ‘letting go’.”

The single was recorded at Anti Motion Studios in Johannesburg earlier this year when the band went into studio for the recording of their third album. It was written by frontman Werner Olckers halfway through the writing process of the album and initially the band had a few versions of the song. They knew the track had single potential and contains something special, and thus settled on it as the first official single.

This is also the band’s first release as the ‘new’ WRESTLERISH. They have completely done away with their previous folk/acoustic feel and have expanded their sound sonically with a more rhythmic feel to it. The song also features the addition of Candice Armitage for the first time on vocals which allowed WRESTLERISH a stronger melodic approach and more freedom when it comes to songwriting.

WRESTLERISH’s third studio album – GREATER GOODS AND LESSER EVILS – will be released through SONY South Africa within the next month. Although they still write pop songs, the band’s new direction are leaning towards the darker side of their sound and the tones and music now have a more aggressive quality to it.

“We’re very excited to get our new sound out there! We feel like it’s been an eternity since we’ve released something, and man are we proud of this new something!”
