USC defensive tackle Jay Tufele announced on Thursday that he will return to the school for his junior season rather than enter the NFL Draft.

Tufele, who was a first-team All-Pac-12 selection as a redshirt sophomore, noted that he feels he still has room to grow before going professional.

“Thinking about my future has been a very personal, slow, and methodical process,” Tufele wrote on Twitter, noting that he’s seen improvement in his three years at USC. “However, I see that the future me has exponential room for growth. There are still more skills I wish to hone, and personal goals I wish to accomplish before I know I am fully mature on and off the field to leave.”

The 6-foot-3, 305-pound lineman from Utah was an All-Pac-12 second-team selection as a redshirt freshman. This past season, he recorded career-highs in tackles (42), tackles for loss (6.5) and sacks (4.5).
