A boarding minor for Alex Kerfoot on Saturday could turn into a suspension. The 25-year-old will have a hearing Monday for his hit on defenseman Erik Johnson in the Leafs’ 5-3 victory over the Colorado Avalanche.
On the backcheck, Johnson raced for a puck behind the Avs net when Kerfoot came from behind and checked the blueliner in the lower back, sending him head-first into the boards.
Johnson stayed down for a moment but did not leave the game; Kerfoot received a two-minute penalty on the play. Standing at 5-10, 185 pounds, Kerfoot is not known for a heavy physical style of play, nor has he ever been suspended.
In 22 games with the Leafs this season, the former Colorado winger has racked up five goals and eight points. As for Johnson, the 31-year-old has a goal, six points and a plus/minus rating of minus-4 in 23 games this season.
