In their first “Sunday Night Football” game since 2007, the Bills (9-4) will try to make the case they are a genuine AFC playoff threat rather than regular-season pretenders.
Buffalo visits the Steelers (8-5) well-positioned to reach the postseason for the second time in three years. This time, though, it seems possible for the team to actually win a contest once it gets there depending on its opponent.
Pittsburgh, more accustomed to playoff runs this century, could leapfrog the Bills for the second AFC wild-card spot with a victory Sunday. The difference between the fifth and sixth seeds this year could be massive — No. 5 will likely face the solid-but-unspectacular Texans, while No. 6 will likely run into Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs.
Quarterback Josh Allen makes the 14th start of his impressive second NFL season for Buffalo, while Devlin Hodges gets the nod to lead a banged-up Pittsburgh offense.
