December is upon us, which means the NFL playoff picture is getting tighter, making the “Monday Night Football” matchup between the Vikings (8-3) and Seahawks (9-2) hugely important for the NFC standings.
Take Seattle’s current playoff situation, for example: The Seahawks enter Monday fifth in the NFC playoff bracket, which would mean a road wild-card game against the Cowboys. A win over the Vikings, though, would elevate Seattle all the way up to the No. 2 seed with a first-round bye and guaranteed home game in the divisional round.
The Vikings, meanwhile, can keep pace with the Packers for the NFC North divisional lead with a win and inch closer to a potential winner-take-all meeting with Green Bay in Week 16.
Needless to say, a single game can significantly impact a team’s outlook for the remainder of the season, and Monday’s battle in Seattle is no exception.
There figures to be plenty of points on the board as the Seahawks and Vikings ranks sixth and seventh, respectively, in points per game this season. Both quarterbacks have been lighting it up recently as well: Russell Wilson and Kirk Cousins have combined for 34 passing touchdowns and just four interceptions since October. The stronger passing defense could be the decider.
