Mary Timony (of Helium and Ex Hex) joins Kyle Meredith to talk about her new album Untame the Tiger, her first solo effort in nearly 20 years. Listen to the new episode above, or wherever you get your podcasts.

The indie legend speaks on why she wanted her new album to sound like a desert record, having Fairport Convention’s Dave Mattacks drum on it, and suffering a breakup during the recording process. Coupled with the tragic loss of both her parents, the experiences understandably led to her exploring themes of loneliness and escape over the course of the new songs.

Elsewhere, Timony shares her feelings surrounding making the top 100 on Rolling Stone’s list of the greatest guitarists of all time: “It means so much to me, but, of course, I have to be a little bit suspect, because like, they’re just trying to be more PC here,” she laughs. “But I also really appreciate it. I’m just glad the people who made the list this year are valuing things besides technique and flashiness and showoff-iness.”
