The SEC seems poised to have two teams in the College Football Playoff, but the conference championship game Saturday still carries huge implications for the national championship hunt.

Undefeated LSU, No. 2 in the CFP rankings, can make its case to regain the top spot with a win over the No. 4 team, 11-1 Georgia. The Bulldogs, though, likely need a win to have a spot in the playoff, especailly after Oklahoma’s overtime victory over Baylor in the Big 12 championship.

The championship game will be strength vs. strength, and conversely, weakness vs. weakness. Led by Heisman candidate quarterback Joe Burrow, the Tigers have been one of the best offenses in the nation all year, averaging 560.5 yards per game.

Georgia makes up for a good-not-great offense with a defense ranked No. 2 in the country at preventing points. The lone loss of the year for Kirby Smart’s team ā€” a puzzling 20-17 overtime defeat at home to South Carolina ā€” came when that offense turned the ball over four times, and the defense forced no takeaways.
