News that Leitch would direct a new Jurassic movie came to light late last week, when Universal signaled the film was on the fast track by giving it a July 2, 2025, release date. The parting of ways is said to be due to a difference in vision and to be amicable.
THR broke the news last month that Universal was moving ahead with a new Jurassic World film, with Jurassic Park screenwriter David Koepp back to write after working on Steven Spielberg’s 1993 original and his 1997 follow-up. The plan is to launch a “new Jurassic era,” which suggests characters played by Jurassic World stars Chris Pratt and Bryce Dallas Howard will not return. The Jurassic franchise has spanned six features that have surpassed $6 billion worldwide.
Leitch is a steady hand with a prolific output that includes Deadpool 2 and multiple Universal titles, including Fast & Furious Presents: Hobbs & Shaw and the upcoming Fall Guy.
Deadline first reported the news.
