Yesterday saw the official release of a brand new music video by GANGS OF BALLET for their latest single, DON’T LET ME GO. DON’T LET ME GO is the second single from their debut album, Yes/No/Grey. (which was released in August 2013 and reached nr. 1 on iTunes within 12 hours of its release), and is currently nr. 25 on the 5FM Top 40 after entering the chart 4 weeks ago. It is also charting on JacarandaFM’s KiaTop20 chart where it is currently sitting at nr. 11.
“It was the strangest thing I’ve seen, I looked at her, she looked like me. Although our heads were separate paths, we gave ourselves, we fused two hearts.”
The music video for DON’T LET ME GO – a Bouwer Bosch Films and Brett de Vos Production – feature an older couple with the wife breaking her husband out of hospital for one last night together, running wild around town and having fun. The song is based on the concept of soul mates and people being intertwined to the point of not knowing where you end and where they begin. The depiction of a bond was the most important element for the new video, and thus the band decided an older couple with a lifetime’s worth of history would be the perfect example to emphasize this.
This is the first music video from GANGS OF BALLET which does not feature a performance element, as the band wanted a short story film for the plot of the video. The video is a more quirky than previous offerings and features the beauty of watching older people. It is also more light-hearted in parts, as the viewer experiences the bond between these two people.
“Everyone can connect with the song. Everyone wants to love and everyone wants to be loved. That connection with another human being is written into our DNA and it’s hard to escape, no matter how old or young you are.”
