Week 14, the first week of the fantasy playoffs in many leagues, presents difficult matchups for key RBs. The Saints host the 49ers, which is bad news for Alvin Kamara (we’ll talk more about him in a little bit). Ezekiel Elliott and the Cowboys play in Chicago, which isn’t as tough as it used to be but isn’t great, especially coming off a Thanksgiving loss to the Bills. And whoever starts at RB for the Chiefs will have to play New England. In playoff time, though, it’s extra hard to turn away from your studs, which is why Kamara and  Elliott remain fairly high in our RB rankings.

Kamara’s workload has been curious since he’s returned from an ankle injury. In six games before getting hurt, Kamara averaged 14.3 carries per game. Since coming back, he’s averaged just fewer than 10 rushes per game across four contests. Kamara has made up for it with eight targets in each of those four weeks, but it’s still an added concern when you take the tough matchup and decline in rushes into account — especially in non-PPR leagues.

Kyle Shanahan decided to throw our RB rankings into all sorts of flux by using Raheem Mostert for 20 carries and Tevin Coleman for just five in Week 13. Add in the fact that Matt Breida (ankle) might be back in Week 14, and you have a three-headed monster that’s hard to predict for fantasy purposes.

Just when we thought we had the Tampa Bay backfield finally figured out, Peyton Barber went out and ran for two touchdowns in Week 13.  Conversely, Bo Scarbrough rushed 21 times on Thanksgiving and seems totally secure in his rushing role in an equally uninspiring backfield.

Ahead of a beautiful fantasy playoff schedule, there could be a shift in the Dolphins backfield. Kalen Ballage sustained a leg injury and was ruled out pretty quickly from the remainder of Week 13. That meant Patrick Laird, known more as a pass catcher than a rusher, became the top back for Miami. He’ll be usable in PPR leagues, at the very least, if he retains the Dolphins’ starting job.

We’ll be keeping an eye on possible RB returns from injury throughout the week. That includes Marlon Mack (hand), Matt Breida (ankle), James Conner (shoudler), Jordan Howard (shoulder), and Damien Williams (ribs).

Reminder: As always, we expect to make plenty of changes to these rankings throughout the week, so check back for updates.
