Martial arts superstar Donnie Yen has wrapped on upcoming action sequel John Wick 4, with the actor sharing some behind-the-scenes footage from the set of the movie. Yen took to social media to heap praise on both Keanu Reeves and director Chad Stahelski, with the actor giving us a glimpse backstage and describing the upcoming John Wick outing as “super fun” and “creative” before declaring that audiences will “really love this one.”
“It’s never easy making a movie especially abroad far away from family and finally going home after four months of JW4, I like to thank Keanu and Chad for their warmest gestures, this journey has been super fun, these guys are humble, respectful, passionate film makers purely striving to make the best movie, and I really think this particular one will be very special, but for me it’s even more rewarding from this unique experience is that I’d gained genuine friendships. John Wick 4, just little bit more!” Yen said in a statement alongside the footage and assorted selfies.
The addition of Yen to the action-packed world of John Wick is a hugely exciting one, and the Ip Man star has clearly had a great time working alongside both Keanu Reeves and director Chad Stahelski. But, despite all the good times, Yen is looking forward to finally getting home to his family, leaving Reeves’ Wick to once again take down all manner of nameless villains in his continuing vendetta
While the official John Wick 4 title has been revealed as Hagakure, not too much information has been released regarding Yen’s role in John Wick: Chapter 4, it was previously reported that he will play an “old friend of Keanu Reeves’ super assassin John Wick, who shares his same history and many of the same enemies.” The creatives behind the follow-up have reportedly had Yen on their radar for some time, with producer Basil Iwanyk saying, “Donnie Yen will bring a vibrant and powerful energy to the franchise. We were determined to bring him on board to John Wick 4 and are thrilled for the opportunity to have such a major talent to collaborate with Keanu.”
This is not the first time that Donnie Yen has taken the time to applaud the efforts of Keanu Reeves and Chad Stahelski, and it should surprise absolutely nobody to learn that both men are “lovely,” and have led to Yen’s most enjoyable Hollywood experience. “I have to take this opportunity to (express) my utmost appreciation for Chad (Stahelski) and Keanu (Reeves),” Yen said. “They’re just lovely men, gentlemen, they’ve got a big heart. Keanu’s got a good soul, a good man. Chad is also a very good man, very knowledgeable. People think of him as a brilliant action guy, he’s not (just that), he understands films. He’s a film librarian, he knows what’s going on. I’m having the best time working with them in this movie, (more) than any of my previous Hollywood movies, so I wanted to express my appreciation.”
Starring Laurence Fishburne, Lance Reddick, Rina Sawayama, Shamier Anderson, Bill Skarsg&ård, Scott Adkins, Hiroyuki Sanada, Clancy Brown, and Ian McShane alongside Keanu Reeves and Donnie Yen, John Wick: Chapter 4 is scheduled to be released on May 27, 2022 by Lionsgate.
