In a new partnership with ESPN, Diplo (real name Thomas Wesley Pentz) will assume curation duties of Monday Night Football for the remainder of the NFL season.
Speaking of the partnership, ESPN Vice President of Marketing Emeka Ofodile stated what fans have known for quite some time. “Diplo is a force to be reckoned with and we knew he’d bring great energy to our Ready for Football campaign,” he said. “He also happens to be a big sports fan and we’re looking forward to building something really special around the NFL on ESPN.” Fans will recognize Ofodile is, of course, referring to the fact that Pentz is an avid Philadelphia Eagles fan.
For Pentz’ first selection, the producer has chosen “Ruckus” by Konata Small to run during the preview slot of the upcoming San Francisco 49ers and Seattle Seahawks divisional head-to-head matchup. Thus far, these teams stand in first and second place within the NFC West, respectively.
Pentz explained his decision-making. “This is the point in the season where it starts to get really exciting…Dumb luck has ended and the true contenders are really being revealed,” he stated. “It’s a part of the season that tests not just the teams, but their fans as well — I feel like the energy of ‘Ruckus’ is a perfect match for where these two teams are right now.”
