New music is on the way from Bon Iver, the musical project of Justin Vernon. Today, the band has announced a new EP, SABLE, which will feature a trio of fresh songs. The first, “S P E Y S I D E,” is available now ahead of the full release on October 18th; stream the track below.
Tender and acoustic, “S P E Y S I D E” is accompanied by a black and white music video that shows Vernon interspersed with footage of rolling waves, storm clouds, and an isolated barn. “I can’t rest on no dynasty/ What is wrong with me?” he sings.
In a statement, the singer-songwriter revealed that SABLE was written in an effort to “unpack the darkness, pressure and anxiety that amounted to one of the most trying periods of his life.” The name of the album references colors so dark they are almost black, alluding to the “guilt, anguish and turmoil” Vernon works through on the trio of songs. He’s joined by Rob Moose on viola, and SABLE was co-produced as a whole by Vernon and Jim-E Stack.
