We’ve been going to Terrigal all our lives since it’s only a twenty minute drive from the town we grew up in. Once I hit 18, I would frequently visit the beer garden at the Crowne Plaza Terrigal on a Thursday night.

We never had the opportunity to stay there, until our 18-month road trip around Australia which took us back to our roots. We stayed at the Crowne Plaza Terrigal for the weekend with our family.

It has always been on my bucket list to stay here, as I had so many fond memories hanging out in the bar here; back then we called it Peppers and I’m still trapped in that habit. (That is really showing my age now as well.)

Crowne Plaza on Terrigal Beach

The Crowne Plaza is the focal point of Terrigal Beach and I think it enhances the hotel experience of visiting this small coastal town.

If you’re wondering what it’s like to stay here, this review has all the things we loved, and didn’t love, about our stay.

Reasons to Stay at The Iconic Crowne Plaza Terrigal Pacific

1. The Terrigal Beach Terrace (The Beer Garden)

I feel safe enough to say the Crowne Plaza Terrigal has one of the best beer gardens in Australia.

You can enjoy a delicious meal and a drink under the summer sun without staying at the hotel, but trust me, as someone who used to do it every week, trying to get a taxi home afterwards is a nightmare.

There’s nothing better than being able to walk up a flight of stairs and crash into bed.

The Terrigal Beach House, is a more relaxed venue for drinks, meeting friends, and enjoying a nice meal over view of the waves and listening to the gentle sound of the ocean.

The seasonal menu is simple, with meals using locally sourced ingredients.

It has the best ocean views across Terrigal Beach and The Haven, delicious food and informal dining, a vibrant atmosphere. It’s also the ultimate venue for music and has live entertainment from Thursday to Sunday.

2. The pool area

Yes, it’s a beachside hotel and the beach is on your doorstep, but sometimes it’s just nice to chill around an outdoor swimming pool on a sunbed with a cocktail and a good book.

If you have kids like us you can rest up and watch while they enjoy themselves for hours.

The outdoor heated pool area also has beautiful views of the ocean and you can order food and drinks from the The Deck bar attached.

This was the place of class that we would sometimes visit late at night for one of their legendary cocktails.

We enjoy going here now with the girls for a morning coffee or afternoon drinks with extraordinary views of the beach.

Every Friday, live Brazilian jazz is played. They have a wide selection of local and imported beers, wines and cocktails, and a bar menu.

4. Mediterranean Food at Meribella

The latest restaurant added to the Crowne Plaza is Meribella, a Mediterranean-inspired restaurant and bar. It’s in the same location that the former Lounge Bar, the Lord Ashley Bar, used to be.

It has fresh seasonal menus, created by culinary talent Joshua Mason, with a host of options from light snacks to hearty meals.

Like the other restaurants, Meribella offers breathtaking views from it’s gorgeous bay windows.

5. Buffet Breakfasts at Seasalt Restaurant

I fell in love with the buffet breakfast when we stayed at the Crowne Plaza in the Hunter Valley. This one was just as good.

The buffet has every breakfast choice you could ever want: cereals, fruit, pastries, hot food, create your own omelets, smoothies and my very favourite unlimited espresso coffees and make your own juices.

It has the perfect sweeping ocean views to start your morning and get you excited about your day exploring Terrigal.

Sea Salt turns into the hotel’s signature restaurant of an evening serving a-la-carte menu including a range of succulent seafood and premium cuts of meat.

6. Ocean view rooms

The majority of the rooms at the Crowne Plaza Terrigal are ocean-facing deluxe accommodation. Can you think of a more perfect getaway than to a hotel offering captivating views of the ocean and sea breezes waking you up in the morning?

Simply sitting on your own private balcony and watching the sun rise while you are serenaded by the cacophony of the lorikeets in the Norfolk pines that border the beach promenade, is one of the best experiences you can have at the Crown Plaza Hotel.

Each of the light-filled guest rooms comes with a mini bar, its own furnished balcony, air conditioning, free wi-fi, a deluxe king bed or queen bed, and movies-on-demand TV.

If you’re traveling with kids, you can also reserve a crib or extra beds. Some rooms come with a sofa bed.

7. Close proximity to everywhere

The Crowne Plaza is within walking distance to everything. It’s located in the heart of Terrigal, so you will find all the best attractions and great restaurants are within a short walk away.

It is also within short driving distance to nearby surfing beaches, shopping centres and movie theatres and local Central Coast attractions.

8. Comfortable and spacious rooms

The rooms are comfortable, spacious and functional. I would say in terms of decor, it’s a very average hotel with comfort being the biggest factor for consideration.

There is a wide selection of hotel rooms and suites to choose from depending on your needs. The cleanliness was overall exceptional, and we had a good-sized bathroom, which is essential when you’re traveling with two small kids.

There’s enough space to sleep, space to work, and space to chill out and watch your FOX TV.

9. Onsite Endota Spa

While we didn’t try out the Endota Spa, formerly the Tea Tree Spa, ourselves, I’m sure with its views and wide selection of pampering and relaxation treatments it’s a winner for any stay here in Terrigal.

You don’t need to convince me much to take a break for an it’s-all-about-me-for-once session.

10. Health and Fitness Club

Not only does the Aqueous Health Club have an extensive range of gym equipment, but also complimentary fitness classes that include zumba, yoga, and aqua aerobics.

The gym overlooks the outdoor pool and has state of the art equipment and a sauna.

11. The High Tea Experience

With so many onsite restaurants and cafes, you might be thinking there’s enough food experiences here to keep you busy.

If there’s one thing you cannot skip off your list of things to do here, it’s having high tea at Crowne Plaza Terrigal Pacific.

We love the high tea because it can be catered for with gluten free, vegetarian and expecting mum’s variations – and they have a kid’s high tea option, too.

High Tea is every day from 12:30pm to 2:30pm but you must book in advance (48 hours before).

The Verdict: Would We Recommend The Crown Plaza Terrigal?

Whether it is for a girls’ weekend, a romantic escape, a family recharge, or boy’s golfing weekend, the Crowne Plaza is the perfect place for a weekend getaway.

It is only an hour and a half from Sydney and Newcastle and is perfect for even local Central Coasties like us to escape to for the weekend. We are only 20 minutes down the road and still love coming here.

Getting there from Sydney is super easy, it’s approximately a 90 minutes’ drive north of Sydney. To get there, simply take the F3 Freeway north out of the city and follow it to Terrigal Beach.

From Newcastle/Hunter Valley, take the F3 Freeway south. Journey time approx 75 minutes. Take the Gosford exit and follow the signs to Terrigal Beach.

By Train, you can catch one of two trains that depart from Sydney Central Station and Newcastle Station every hour. Gosford Station is the most convenient stop to access Crowne Plaza Terrigal. The journey time is approx 1hr 20 mins from Sydney or Newcastle.

We loved our stay at The Crown Plaza in Terrigal. It has a very local feel, it’s near to the beautiful beaches, boutique shopping, fantastic restaurants and offers views of the gorgeous scenery.

The grandeur of its pink building stands out like a palace on the edge of the beach and looms into view from whatever direction you arrive. So, for your next Central Coast adventure, consider the Crowne Plaza!
