Steve wrote Emancipate while studying his music masters at Berklee College Valencia, Spain. “There’s something refreshingly free about the Spanish culture” Steve recalls, “they just do what they want… but it works.” Influenced by Bob Marley’s timeless Redemption Song, Emancipate is Steve’s belief that we must do what we love, not what we’re told to love. This emotional theme is conveyed through his constant lyrical appeal to “forget fears”, “let go” and allow the groove to “liberate mental slavery”. The word “inkululeko” means “freedom” in isiZulu (a traditional South African language) and is the anthemic emotional cry of this song. Steve’s deep appreciation of the Zulu culture and its accompanying music genres is why Steve creates afro-inspired music. It would only make sense that this beautiful language spills into Steve’s art.

Let Emancipate’s foot-stomping groove take you on an existential journey to blissful freedom.
